System Architect 

Airios is looking for a system architect to join our R&D team in Veldhoven, The Netherlands.

Airios develops and produces control systems for residential ventilation and heating systems. We are a market leader in control systems for the residential original equipment manufacturer (OEM) industry. We have more than 30 years of experience in heating and ventilation controls. Our portfolio of products consists of an ecosystem of connected controllers, sensors, user interfaces, apps and cloud solutions. We work closely with our customers and suppliers to develop new and innovative products.   

 

 

Our products and systems are developed by multidisciplinary project teams of architects and hardware and software engineers. The Airios organizational structure is informal, flexible, and designed to promote innovation. We enjoy a collegial environment where combined experience and knowledge is shared amongst our developers.  

 

As a system architect, you will report to the R&D manager of Airios. You will work in the architecture team which is part of the R&D department consisting of over 20 engineers (architects, soft- and hardware developers) and organized in several scrum teams. We use agile methodologies and tools to develop our products. The architecture team is responsible for the system architecture of all Airios platforms and products, both in hardware and software. They also drive the technology roadmap.  

What you will do  

As a system architect at Airios, you: 

  • Analyze and translate commercial requirements from customers and product management into technical requirements and solution scenarios.  

  • Take the lead in building proof-of-concept prototypes to prove feasibility. 

  • Lead the cross-functional team creating the system specifications and a high-level product hardware and software designs.  

  • Guide the development teams in product and platform implementation. 

  • Drive the generation of intellectual property to protect the innovations generated in Airios. 

  • Maintain the technology roadmap, by benchmarking competing products, working with strategic suppliers and identifying technology developments in the field. You align this with the Airios product roadmap.  

  • Execute the security risk assessments with R&D and business stakeholders. 

  • Work with R&D manager and senior engineers to continuously evaluate and improve the way we develop products as an organization. 

  • Keep ahead of the latest developments in the field and share that knowledge with others in the organization. 

Education and experience

We are looking for a system architect with the following experience:

  • Master’s degree in an engineering study, such as computer science, electrical engineering or mathematics.  

  • A minimum of five-years of experience in a comparable field, involving embedded designs incorporating sensors, connectivity and networking, IoT/Smart Home, and security. 

  • Expert level knowledge in wireless connectivity (e.g. WiFi, Bluetooth, Thread, NB-IoT) and system security. 

  • Development of embedded systems, but additional experience with mobile apps and cloud is preferred. 

  • Working in an agile/scrum environment.  

  • Experience in climate and ventilation systems is preferred.
