Airios is looking for a Bachelor Student ready to work on an exciting thesis assignment to join our R&D team in Veldhoven, The Netherlands.

 

Airios is a supplier of control solutions for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) market. Located in Veldhoven, The Netherlands, we develop and produce electronics and (embedded) software for integration in the HVAC products. For further introduction to Airios, visit  www.airios.eu.

In Airios we develop our software based on a platform: ASPA (Airios Software Platform Architecture). This is a component-based platform that enables reuse of components, services, and testing infrastructure across our products. This allows us to ensure robustness and a short time-to-market of our products. ASPA supports firmware update over-the-air, diagnostics, configuration and testability via wired- and wireless (Bluetooth) interfaces.

The future of HVAC systems is moving fast, where connectivity to cloud infrastructure is emerging. For this, our products are evolving towards leveraging Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity.

​Your role

This thesis assignment will focus on exploring IoT technologies, to enable use cases like predictive maintenance, remote monitoring, remote user interaction and remote service in our HVAC products.

 

In scope of this thesis, following aspects are to be investigated and demonstrated:​

  • Device attestation

  • Secure connectivity

  • Middleware standard like MQTT and Rest API

  • User authentication of cloud users

  • Coupling to other cloud portals

  • Frameworks for cloud portals

 

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, complemented with NEVI courses

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role or environment

  • Strong affinity with electronics and software-driven products

  • Background in semiconductor and/or electronics manufacturing supply chains

  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office

  • Solid project management skills and a good understanding of the product development process

  • Knowledge of cost modeling and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) management within product development

 

The scope is partly embedded, where the IoT aspects like the technology choice for data exchange, device security aspects and middleware selection are to be investigated and demonstrated. Another major aspect is the cloud portal part, where concepts like a user portal, data storage, user management, and device management are demonstrated.

The outcome is a working proof of concept and report giving insight into the explorations, where together with the student we can get insight into the possibilities for our HVAC control products. As part of this assignment, the choice of framework needed to build the proof of concept also needs to be executed.

​

The assignment will be performed on site at the Airios office in Veldhoven. You will be paired with a mentor to guide you in meeting the objectives. You will meet our R&D staff of +35 people of various nationalities and thus feel the environment where we innovate.

​

The candidate we are searching for should have a software background, where cloud technologies in the IoT domain are a major aspect. This includes development using web technologies and affinity with embedded development.
